SuperButter is a new-to-market super-delicious alternative to peanut butter. Made from roasted sunflower, flax and sesame seeds – ingredients dietitians label "superfoods" for their healthful profiles – SuperButter comes in four varieties free of many things people are looking to avoid: gluten, nuts, soy and dairy. Plus it's kosher and made in an allergen-free facility.

The Oxnard company is the brainchild of long-distance runner Katalin Jambor, who has a science background and interest in the relationship between how and what people eat. With SuperButter, she set out to create a tasty, nourishing product with "good fats" that offers sustained energy suitable for athletes – and everyone else.

The cane sugar-sweetened, shelf-stable butters are available in Original Creamy, super-smooth and ideal for kid-friendly sandwiches, and Crunchy, which has whole sunflower, flax and sesame seeds and a more roasted flavor. Creamy Vanilla Bean features Madagascar Bourbon vanilla and Chocolate is flavored with cocoa powder. Thankfully, neither is too sweet or heavy-handed with the additions.

All SuperButters can be used as a one-for-one substitution for peanut butter in recipes. They're also great simply eaten straight from a spoon or slathered on apple or banana slices.

Creamy SuperButter is available in 16-ounce jars at Fresh & Easy markets (FreshAndEasy.com) throughout Ventura County. All four varieties are available on SuperButter's website. For more info, visit SuperButter.com
