Milk Delivers Almond Joy
In Ventura County we are fortunate to have Lux Milk, an artisan almond milk company. I drove to the Camarillo Certifi ed Farmers’ Market to meet owner Amy Bisogni, where she was doing a brisk business. (You can also find Lux at the Channel Islands Harbor Farmers’ Market.)
Bisogni moved to Camarillo, fell in love with the small-town feel and decided to start a business. “I started the company because I truly love the fl avor of handmade almond milk in my daily coff ee,” she says. “I’m not lactose intolerant or vegan, but I saw a lack of high-quality and all-natural nut milks in the market.”
Lux Milk, which contains no preservatives, thickeners or additives, uses 30% to 35% almonds, compared to the average 2% found in most commercial almond milk. So her almond milk has a nuttier fl avor than the commercial brands I’ve tried.
I sampled each of Lux Milk’s fi ve fl avors, starting with unsweetened, then moving on to sweetened, vanilla, chocolate and lavender. I went home with a quart of lavender almond milk and am dreaming of a London Fog lavender almond milk latte.
