Apple and Pear Crisp

Apple and Pear Crisp

Ingredients
  

  • 3 large apples
  • 2 large pears
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for the pan)

FOR THE CRISP TOPPING

  • 1 cup rolled-cut oats
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ cup melted butter

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • Core, peel and chop the apples and pears into small pieces.
  • Mix the fruit in a large mixing bowl with the granulated sugar and cornstarch.
  • Add the mixture to a seasoned cast-iron skillet (or an ovenproof casserole dish) rubbed with a pat of butter.
  • In another bowl, mix oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and spices with melted butter. Once combined, spread the oat mixture on top of the apple-pear mixture in the pan. Bake for about 45 minutes.
  • Serve warm. Don’t forget the ice cream!
