In our Winter 2019 issue, we invited local artists, professional and amateur alike, to submit illustrations that represent our beautiful county "Edible-style" in our first annual Design contest. The submissions that followed were inspiring! After an esteemed panel of judges had the very difficult task of choosing between them, we are so excited to announce our winner and the honorable mentions. Congratulations to you all!

WINNER: CLAUDIA PARDO

STRIVING FOR BALANCE

In the artist’s words:

Bold and graphic, this illustration is intended to visually expound on the meaning behind the commonly used adage “eating a balanced diet.”

A balanced diet goes beyond eating the four food groups. In the case of this image, it's about the balance that exists in the journey of our food, from its source—the land, the growers, the location, the climate—to our plates, including our responsible consumption and educated eating habits. This illustration seeks to graphically explain the importance of a harmonious balance within our agro-industry—an essential fact that Edible Ojai & Ventura County continuously aspires to communicate.

T-shirts and tote bags featuring this winning art can be purchased at EdibleVenturaCounty.com/merch.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Amy Logsdon

If you are familiar with certain farmers in Ojai, you might recognize these hard working women.

In the artist's words:

I decided to do a design that focuses on 'Women in Farming.' As a small business owner in freelance art and design, I was inspired by the articles I saw on these hard-working women who run their own businesses and provide for their families, as well as give back to Mother Earth!  I chose colors that would go well with Spring and Summer fashion and prints.

Stacey Millett from Ventura

Sophie Nguyen, age 17 from Oxnard

Maerah, 3rd grade

In the artist's words:

It's a girl playing in a food jungle and she decided to carry food on her head and make clothes with them.
