Bringing fresh flavor to seasonal offerings
There’s something magical about early spring in Ojai, especially when the sweet aroma of orange blossoms fills the air. It’s hard not to feel uplifted as I wander through this charming town. From March to May, the weather is just perfect—mild and inviting—and after winter’s rains the mountains and hiking trails are a vibrant green that beckons exploration.
For me, this season also means it’s time to savor the Ojai Pixie, a little fruit that holds a special place in my heart. These sweet gems are everywhere, featured in everything from salads to desserts, each bite a reminder of the beauty of Ojai’s local offerings.
And let’s not forget asparagus, peas and artichokes—each brings a taste of spring that’s simply unforgettable. Whether on a hike or in town indulging in the local cuisine, I find that Ojai in early spring is a feast for the senses.
My favorite day of the week? It has to be my visit to our local farmers’ market. It’s not just about fresh ingredients; it’s a chance to bump into friends and neighbors I don’t see often enough. Wandering through the market, I’m always excited to discover what’s in season and how I can weave these local ingredients into my menus and meals at home.
Sharing the brilliance of this special valley fills me with joy, especially because it holds so many cherished memories, from raising my daughter to playing in the kitchen and writing my cookbooks.
I believe that food and cooking are among life’s purest pleasures, and here in the Ojai Valley I relish the opportunity to slow down and truly savor the process of preparing and enjoying meals. In every dish I create, I pay tribute to the Ojai Valley, celebrating this town in ways that are both meaningful and lasting.
It’s a love letter to a place that has shaped my life in a meaningful and lasting way and continues to inspire my culinary adventures.
